Attending concerts is more than just listening to music, it’s an immersive experience where you feel all your senses. This year I have had the privilege of getting to see four concerts. They ranged from rap, pop-folk, and country. Some were better than others but all of them had their own special moment.
The first concert I saw this year was Drake and J. Cole’s “Big as the What?” tour at T-Mobile Center. I went to the second night and paid $80 for nosebleeds.
This concert did not have an opener. Drake was slated to come on stage at 9pm, but did not until 9:45. He performed 37 songs total, but the majority of the songs were not the full length. Each song lasted about a minute and a half and quickly transitioned to the next.
J.Cole made his entrance at 10:30pm he performed eight full songs. In my opinion, J. Cole stole the show and put on a truly soul-reaching performance. My favorite song he sang was “No Role Modelz.” Overall I would rate this concert a 6/10 it had some elements I enjoyed and was worth the price.
The next concert I saw this year was one I was looking forward to since I discovered the artist. I got the tickets after a battle on presale for $50 for lawn seats. Noah Kahan at Azura Amphitheater. I arrived at the concert at 4 pm, we got there early because we had general admission lawn tickets. We waited in line for two hours for the doors to open. At 6pm the gates opened and we were in the venue by 6:30.
Ryan Beatty opened for Noah Kahan. Personally, I don’t think his performance was memorable. The people closer to the stage seemed to enjoy it but, it did not seem like he was performing for the whole arena. Noah Kahan came on stage at 9:20 pm and opened with his hit single “Dial Drunk”. He played 20 songs for the set and came back out for an encore. My favorite song he played was “Maine”, it is one of his older songs and was a surprise song. I would rate this concert a 9/10 the missing point is because of the lack of energy from the opener.
