Seasonal Blues

Seasonal+Blues

You wake up, and “I don’t want to get out of bed,” comes out of your mouth every morning. A look outside the window shows it’s still dark out, and it’s raining for the 3rd day in a row. What to wear: leggings and a T-shirt, a sweater with jeans, you end up choosing the usual sweatpants and a sweatshirt because it’s easiest. While walking out to your car your hair gets soaked and so you end up just putting it back again.

Another day repeating the same things.

You get home from school, do all your homework, look outside, and it’s dark again. “Where’d the day go?” you think, but it’s only 6:30. The sun setting tricks your mind into thinking the days over, so you waste away the rest of the night watching TikToks. Then you go to bed.

Another day repeating the same things.

On a cold, rainy, fall day it’s easy to get submersed into the dullness and weariness of the outside. It seems as if everything is dying and losing color so why shouldn’t you as well? It’s hard to see life on a cold rainy fall day but if you pay attention to the little things you might be able to see the good in fall.

For me, I try to think about all the positive things that come from the transition from Fall to Winter. Kids jumping in leaf piles. Sitting watching movies while drinking hot chocolate after going out into the snow. Wearing layers-on layers of sweaters and turtlenecks. Being closer to loved ones to feel their warmth. These few things make the bitter weather worth it.
